Product Description Mirrorless cameras aren't only revolutionary because of their compact size; they're even more versatile for mounting lenses than their full-sized counterparts! Fotodiox offers strong support for mirrorless camera platforms with hundreds of options for mounting both modern and vintage lenses. Our adapters deliver infinity focus, manual aperture control, and a sturdy build for lasting quality. Compatible Nikon 1-mount cameras (including but not limited to): S2, J4, V3, AW1, S1, J3, V2, J2, V1, J1. Please note: This is a manual adapter, so lens functions that rely on electronic communication with the camera body (autofocus, AE metering, image stabilization, etc.) will be disrupted. Set your camera to “Manual’ or ‘Aperture Priority’ for metering. If camera does not release be sure to enable ‘shoot without lens’ in camera settings. We state “infinity focus allowed” because our adapters are designed to be universal which can prevent some lenses from focusing to infinity at the infinity Mark. Set Contains: adapter

Yes you will be using manual mode using this adapter and I believe all except Nikon's official adapter. Other reviewers have not been very fair since manual should be expected. Unfortunately Nikon's adapter is just too expensive and not worth the price for the Nikon 1 system. One of the reasons I really like Canon mirrorless is the ability to get a cheap adapter for Canon EF mount lenses that communicates with the camera and autofocuses. But that isn't the case with Nikon 1.The biggest disappointment for me is discovering Nikon is not allowing magnification when a lens isn't detected. At least that seems to be the case on the V1 and it sounds like it applies to other Nikon 1 models. The screen is sharp enough to focus when you don't need to be very precise, but (from only a few minutes of testing) it seems it may be quite difficult to achieve precise focus.Anyway regarding this adapter specifically it works well as expected. I bought this one because it allows adjusting aperture and as far as I know I don't think most of the others do (will need aperture ring on lens and most of my Nikon lenses do not have one)
