This Fotodiox lens mount adapter is made with high standard precision. The all metal design and polished surface is designed to guarantee smooth mounting and long lasting experiences. It allows Pentax Takumar lens to fit on the Nikon 1-Series camera bodies. Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, or any other functions will not operate correctly while using this adapter. In this case "stop-down mode" will need to be used when metering since the lens does not have the ability to have its aperture controlled by the camera body. You must shoot in manual shooting mode. Infinity focusing is guaranteed.Compatible CamerasNikon 1 Mirrorless Cameras (Including, but not limited to):S2, J4, V3, AW1, S1, J3, V2, J2, V1, J1The product pictured may have slight differences in appearance from the actual product such as color, font style, and/or other cosmetic changes due to improvements in design.Note: The camera must be in manual shooting mode and the focus selector set to manual for the camera to work with the adapter.

Yes you will be using manual mode using this adapter and I believe all except Nikon's official adapter. Other reviewers have not been very fair since manual should be expected. Unfortunately Nikon's adapter is just too expensive and not worth the price for the Nikon 1 system. One of the reasons I really like Canon mirrorless is the ability to get a cheap adapter for Canon EF mount lenses that communicates with the camera and autofocuses. But that isn't the case with Nikon 1.The biggest disappointment for me is discovering Nikon is not allowing magnification when a lens isn't detected. At least that seems to be the case on the V1 and it sounds like it applies to other Nikon 1 models. The screen is sharp enough to focus when you don't need to be very precise, but (from only a few minutes of testing) it seems it may be quite difficult to achieve precise focus.Anyway regarding this adapter specifically it works well as expected. I bought this one because it allows adjusting aperture and as far as I know I don't think most of the others do (will need aperture ring on lens and most of my Nikon lenses do not have one)
