First I want to say I am not tech-savvy and my husband normally buys and installs these kinds of things as he is the tech guy of the family. This is a letter I sent to my friend looking to buy a POE NVR SYSTEM. AS they saw me going crazy researching to prove to my husband I can do it! Tell me aI cannot and I will figure it out. About the NVR Camera System, It works on PC, MAC, Apple phones and Android Phones. Which we have all of those! Make sure any system you buy works on your existing computer (If you have a Mac) and phone ( If you have an Apple) before you buy as many don't work with Mac Computers. We specifically wanted this for watching our home on my Mac Laptop and Apple phone while traveling. it was very easy to set up the NVR and the App. They are both also very easy to use. If you cannot set up alone call the excellent Tech Support, they are located in El Monte California and answer the phone every time I have called! (THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT) . They have amazing customer service! I do not understand why anyone would say this system is hard to install, I did not really read the manual just plugged into the holes that fit, or where I thought they went (lol, I am not tech-savvy). OK, I am impatient and the kind of girl that does not read instructions. I like to figure things out, good for the brain. First, make sure you plug in all the cameras and internet cable before you turn on the NVR. This is Key to any NVR system with POE cables because they automatically connect and set up everything when you turn on, I discovered if the internet is not connected via POE cable, it will not set up properly. if not you will be on the phone with customer service, which is fantastic by the way and calls you back right away! This is very important. I bought an Annke system less expensive than this one, with the same features that had all five-star reviews on Amazon Prior to purchasing this one. It was a nightmare setting up, the tech support was in china, communication sent an email we will call you back, they had no number to call, when they called it was the evening and ended up all night with them, they barely spoke English and they had a time difference of 24 hours. I spent 5 days, stayed up (2) nights with China Tech setting up that system only to be told it did not work with my MAC. afterwords and I could not view on my Mac. Boxed that guy up and sent it back. I am not the kind of person to damage peoples business from being a business owner, so I did not post a bad review on them. When a product is really good after the experience I had, I have to share. I have to reward with a review and that's why I am writing about the GW Security system I bought and Love!.This is the Camera NVR SYSTEM I bought (GW makes many different kinds and this one had everything I needed POE, (8) Channel NVR 2TB, installed!, (4) 4K HD cameras with wide-view angles (110 degrees), Night Vision, remote access and notifications on phones, true motion detect, lights on camera and 2-way speaker (have not set up yet), night vision, video compression best exterior camera rating. Anyway, I had my list my tech Husband and I put together and it was very complete, this system met all of our needs. I especially like the warranty and tech support in USATHIS IS THE SYSTEM WE BOUGHT:GW 8 Channel PoE NVR Ultra-HD 4K (3840x2160) Security Camera System with 4 x 4K (8MP) 2160p IP Camera, 100ft Night Vision, Outdoor Indoor Surveillance CameraAmazon Pagehttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DQW7KLW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1BEST INSTALLER IF IN CLAIF.HAD A HARD TIME FINDING AN INSTALLER, BUT FOUND ONE WHO WAS RECOMMENDED BY MY WYFI TECH SUPPORT.I hired an amazing guy to run the cables through the attic and install cameras! His name is Miguel 1(323) 356- 1611 Miguel owner of MBK Cables! If you live in Southern Calif CALL HIM! Tell him Virginia sent you! The reason why I mention him was the other story trying to find someone to run the POE cables and he did it Fantastic! at a very fair price about half of everyone else I asked. HE WANTED TO SET UP MY SOFT WEAR FOR THE SYSTEM ON THE CAMERAS, BUT I HAD ALREADY DONE IT, SO HE CAN DO THAT TOO ;-). GEEK SQUAD WANTED TO CHARGE TWICE HIS AMOUNT AND WOULD NOT RUN THE WIRES THROUGH THE ATTIC OR INSTALL CAMERAS MORE THAN 9 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, SO ALL WIRES WOULD HAVE BEEN EXPOSED. Other tech guys I called wanted to sell the system with the install or charge double for install. Miguel was the most professional and the most reasonable, he ran the lines through the attic and outside he also upgraded my cable to Cat 6 at no additional charge (to buy cat 6 it POE Cable would have cost me $100 USD more, which I did want to do. He installed and ran the POE cable on the 2nd story and through the attic all by himself and only took 3 hours for two stories 2800 square foot home.BACK to the Review, Sorry. When you get your NVR camera system, open the box and connect everything to make sure it works before the installer comes to run the POE cabless. DO NOT TURN ON THE NVR UNTIL ALL IS CONNECTED! INCLUDING THE MOST IMPORTANT, THE POE CABLE TO THE INTERNET MODEM FROM INTERNET PROVIDER. ALSO SET UP NVR ON THE MODEM, BEFORE SCANNING THE BAR CODE AND SETTING UP THE APP.1) Very important that you connect everything first BEFORE TURNING ON THE NVR SYSTEM (THIS IS FOR ALL NVR SYSTEMS IT COULD BE WHY THAT ANNKE NVR DID NOT WORK AND I HEAR IT HAS TO BE DONE WITH ALL NVR'S.Including the POE internet cable that comes with your system and cameras (the POE CABLE looks like a phone socket and connects to your home internet modem do not think it will connect to wireless internet, as it needs to be connected to the POE internet cable on the modem directly). (OK you Tech guys know this, but that's for others like me;-)2) Connect PoE cable to NVR to your modem at home, it sets up automatically when you turn the NVR on).3) Connect PoE cable to NVR to each camera 1, 2 3 and 4, so it shows up on your screen nice (it has 8 channels)4) Connect Mouse and Any home computer Monitor Screen you have at home.5) Connect Power and turn on, it sets up all cameras and internet automatically, when you turn on as long as all is connected.6) It will ask to set up a password (set up a personal password (not more than 6 to 8 digits, this is very important as it does not work well and bumps you off on any NVR (I was told by tech support). if you use more digits for some reason, I was told it will not work well.). You have to enter the password every time you enter the system and sometimes when you view the cameras so don't exceed the 6 digits for a password and try to keep it simple ;-)I connected everything first and called customer service who was very responsive just to help with a couple of soft wear questions like setting up notices on my app, ask for Jamie I here she is amazing! When you turn on the system create a password and click next, next next, until done easy-breezy. The LAST STEP LOAD THE APP! load the App on your phone and scan the code on the screen. Wella! Connected! Good to go! It all sets up automatically, as long as it is all connected including the internet POE cable to your home modem before you turn on the power on the NVR. Don’t worry about camera name or code all 0000000 when entering a password. I worried about that but it doesn’t matter according to the tech support and it did not matter. Good luck, I did 2 months of research and returned (2) systems one was highly rated but had lots of problems and did not work on my Mac (after setting it up for 5 days!) and they had very bad Tec Support in China. This system hs excellent Tech support located in the USA! I am all about global business, but sometimes you need answers right away and the tech support is quick to respond on the GW Security Camera and you have a phone number to call them directly, which they always answer! Good luck and I hope this helps!
